Our list of some of the most romantic – and quirky – ways to spend Thailand honeymoons

Khiri's Ideas for Thailand Honeymoons

Thailand is simply an exceptional destination for honeymooners and we would like to share some of our favorite products & experiences.

Obviously, hotels play a key role in most honeymoon trips in Thailand, so here are our top 4 romantic resorts…

Treehouse Bangkok

Do you think Bangkok is only about street food, temples, skyscrapers and nightlife? Have you ever heard of Bang Krachao, the “Green Lung” of Bangkok and its bike paths winding through mangroves, coconut palms, small farms, villages and Buddhist temples?

In the middle of this hidden oasis, you’ll find a superb little eco-resort with cubic architecture which seems to be perched in the trees. The 12 bungalows, or “nests”, are spread over three levels with access to the roof and breathtaking views.

We love the modern style – mix of wood and metal – and the eco-responsible philosophy (renewable energy, rainwater harvesting system, recycled building materials, waste treatment). We have a soft spot for the “View with a Room” and its bamboo balcony space where you can sleep under the stars – VERY much recommended for couples.

The Sarojin

A superb adults-only boutique hotel in Khao Lak, nestled in a lush garden, with access to an 11km secluded white sand beach!

Lady Sarojin (from whom the hotel takes its name) was the eldest daughter of a Thai nobleman. She became mistress of the house on the accession of her mother. The house then quickly became famous for its hospitality. The annual Lady Sarojin Awards are now given to deserving & best performing staff!

We particularly recommend the Sarojin for couples looking for calm and relaxation. Breakfast is served until 6 p.m., massages can be enjoyed at the spa, and private candlelight dinners can be arranged in the jungle near the waterfalls or on the beach. Ficus and The Edge serve excellent cuisine, but if you want to vary the pleasures a bit without going too far, try the Thai Beach Restaurant on the beach.

And for the more active couples, the location is ideal as you can discover the Similan/Surin Islands (1 hour by boat) for diving, the Khao Sok and Phang Nga national parks, Phuket, and Krabi.

TreeHouse Villas Koh Yao

Located on Koh Yao Noi on the same 400m long private beach as Paradise Koh Yao (accessible by boat), just at the foot of a massive rock and amongst the jungle’s canopy in a treetop location with fantastic views on Phang Nga Bay, TreeHouse Villas is an adults-only luxury resort decorated with modern vintage style recycled materials for those with a love of the environment.

Among the 3 room categories, we strongly suggest the signature duplex TreeHouse Villa accessible via a suspended bridge. The open-aired lower floor has a high ceiling and features a plunge pool which reaches into the jungle itself, dining area and sun beds. In the air conditioned upper floor, the bed faces a balcony which sits above the trees giving the feeling of floating over the leafy canopy and providing beautiful sea views, and from where you can spot the resident hornbills.

Test the couple massage treatment at the Serenity Spa and get access to the herbal steam cave and waterfall grotto facilities!

U Chiang Mai

A real oasis of peace in the heart of the old town, this boutique hotel blends traditional and contemporary styles with subtle touches of purple. The spa is particularly famous, especially with its gold leaf treatment (throughout history, gold has been recognized for its beautifying properties, especially in Ancient Rome and Imperial China. Historians have also long maintained that Cleopatra slept with a golden mask every night to stay young!)

The location is perfect to explore the old town on foot (or by bike, available in the hotel) and if you don’t want to go anywhere, just enjoy breakfast at any time of the day and have a drink at the rooftop bar DRINK. And don’t forget the U Choose Program beforehand to choose your preference of pillow, soap, and tea!

Now let’s take a look at some unique experiences to make your clients’ honeymoon a trip they’ll never forget…

Private Hong by Starlight Experience with John Gray’s Sea Canoe

John Gray is a nature lover, from a family of enthusiasts resolutely turned towards the sea. He spent his childhood in California where he saw nature degrade. He graduated from SCUBA at the age of 12 and founded his first kayak expedition company in 1983 in Hawaii.

The day starts around noon to avoid the crowds. Accompanied by their kayaking guide, the couple can explore 2 islands, caves and “hongs” (kind of collapsed open-air caves) and try to spot wildlife (macaques, monitor lizards, kingfishers, sea eagles) before enjoying a seafood buffet while watching the sunset over Phang Nga.

They will learn how to make their own “kratong” (a sort of tray made of banana leaves, decorated with flowers, candles and flowers…in Thailand the legend says that if two lovers set a “kratong” adrift and it stays afloat until out of sight, their love will last forever)

And if the couple is lucky enough (meaning if the weather is good) they might see bioluminescent phytoplankton in the caves.

Cruise the Chao Phraya in Style

Cruise along the Chao Phraya River in style on board a private hand-crafted vessel. Enjoy the views and observe life along the river while sipping a glass of champagne.

Step on board your hand-built Hacker Craft boat for a luxury private cruise along the River of Kings. Featuring the best mahogany wood, offering comfort and performance, this is the perfect way to experience the sights and sounds of life along Bangkok’s famous river. Relax and allow your skilled captain to navigate the waterways while you appreciate the importance of this river that has played such an instrumental part in the city’s history and development.

Bangkok Nightlife

For night owls and partygoers…

There are a lot of outstanding rooftop bars in Bangkok, but for couples we like to recommend the award-winning Sky on 20 on the 26th floor of Novotel Bangkok with DJ, every Friday and Saturday from 8pm to 11pm. Children under 18 are not allowed, making the experience a bit more couple friendly.

And if the couple prefer to stay underground, try the seductive colonial-style bar Maggie Choo’s to travel in the Shanghai of the 1930s. Cheongsam-clad ladies pose elegantly on swings, and secret passageways are hidden behind one-way mirrors. We love the creative cocktails (e.g. the Empress of India) the dimmed lights, the jazz concerts and shows! The bar was designed by Ashley Sutton, an Australian-born interior designer known for his achievements combining history, industrial design and the world of comics. In Bangkok we also owe him – among others – the Sing Sing Theater, Iron fairies and J. Boroski.

At Khiri Thailand, we also like to arrange a few exclusive lovers’ picnics in secret and remote places – please contact us if you want to have more details.
