WILLAMETTE VALLEY VACATIONS
For the thousands of pioneers who came across the
Oregon Trail, this rich and verdant valley truly was the
promised land. Flanked by the Coast Range and the
Cascades, the valley takes its name from the river that
flows through it. Historic cities and towns, settled more
than a hundred years ago by emigrants from all over the
world, are found throughout the region, but the area is
perhaps best known for its diverse agriculture, which
includes all kinds of vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs,
nuts, hops, and Christmas trees.
Modern day pioneers may come to experience the
abundance of recreational opportunities, to explore the
area's progressive cities, or to tour the valley's wine
country, which is gaining worldwide attention as one of
the Pacific Northwest's finest wine appellations -
consistently turning out internationally acclaimed Pinot
noir, Pinot gris and riesling.
Oregon's Willamette Valley is nestled between two
mountain ranges. Its temperate year round climate makes
it a perfect location as the heart of the Oregon wine
country and for the creation of world class wines.
A driving or bicycling tour of the Oregon wine country can
also include many of: Oregon's covered bridges,
Oregon's beautiful gardens, Oregon's historical
landmarks or you can enjoy one of many of Oregon's
festivals and attractions.
Oregon wine country has been named "most romantic
destination" in the 2nd annual Fodor's Choice Destination
list. Fodor's polled more than 700 editors and writers from
around the world to determine the top ten most
overlooked destinations.
