LAS VEGAS NEVADA VACATIONS
TEN WAYS TO SAVE BIG MONEY IN LAS VEGAS
1. VISIT OFF-SEASON- Las Vegas doesn't really have an "off-season",
but some times are always busier than others. Try to avoid the hot
summer months, holidays, spring breaks, and large conventions. If it
doubt about a particular time period, call the Las Vegas Chamber of
Commerce to see if any major conventions are scheduled.
2. SCHEDULE MID-WEEK FLIGHTS IN AND OUT OF LAS
VEGAS: Las Vegas is the #1 weekend destination in America so Friday
night and Sunday flight prices are sky-high. The same goes for hotel
rooms. Visiting mid-week can save you lots.
3. USE FREE OR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Taxis are
expensive and unnecessary so use the free monorail service to go from
hotels to casinos. Bally's monorail to the MGM Grand runs from 9:00 a.m.
to 1:00 a.m., seven days a week, every ten minutes. Bellagio's free
monorail to the Monte Carlo runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. seven days a
week. Luxor's monorail between Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay runs 24
hours a day and picks up riders every 8 minutes. Mirage's monorail to
Treasure Island runs from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m., seven days a week. The public
transportation system, known as "CAT", runs more than 300 buses from
5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. seven days a week.
4. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREE PARKING AT STRIP HOTELS
AND CASINOS: If you do rent a car, park it in one of the free and secure
parking lots. Casinos don't want to give you any reason to leave, so they
offer free parking as an additional perk. Be sure to check if you need to get
your parking ticket validated inside.
5. STAY IN A HOTEL OFF THE STRIP: The rooms get cheaper the
further away from the Strip. If you plan to spend most of your time in the
casinos or attending shows, it's worth the extra money to stay on the Strip,
otherwise stay in a hotel a few miles away.
6. ASK FOR FREE COUPON BOOKS AT YOUR HOTEL AND
USE THEM: Coupon books offer a variety of money-saving opportunities
from 2-for-1 show tickets and dinners to worthwhile discounts on food and
drinks.
7. CHOOSE A DECENT LUNCH BUFFET FOR YOUR ONE BIG
MEAL: Buffets range from an inexpensive $5 a person to over $25 for
all-you-can-eat seafood buffets. The prices are more reasonable at lunch,
plus you'll be so stuffed you won't need to eat dinner! Many buffets also
offer free buffets for children or a deeply discounted price.
8. ARRIVE AT BUFFETS SHORTLY BEFORE A MEAL
CHANGE: If you arrive immediately before the restaurant changes over
from lunch to dinner, you pay the lower price, but can still enjoy many
selections only available on the more expensive dinner buffet.
9. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREE ACTIVITIES AND
PERFORMANCES: From spectacular dancing fountain shows at
Bellagio to free wildlife exhibits at the Flamingo Hilton, there's plenty of free
activities for visitors of all ages.
10. ASK ABOUT DISCOUNTS, SPECIAL OFFERS, FREE
DRINKS AND COMPS: Many special offers and discounts are
available at Las Vegas hotels and casinos, but only if you ask for them. So
don't be afraid to ask. It can't do any harm.
