THRILLER TOUR AND SNORKEL IN BARBADOS WITH
STEPHEN TRYHANE
By Paula Hughes Court, Editor, Family Travel Fun

To put it bluntly, my family thought Stephen Tryhane's Thriller Turtle &
Shipwreck Tour was the best shore excursion (out of four) on our recent
Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas cruise. When we arrived in
Barbados, we awoke to pouring rain which caused all of the ship's
morning excursions on the water to be cancelled. Luckily, we had booked
a private tour at 12:30 with Thriller Tour so we took off as scheduled from
the Waterfront Cafe.

SNORKEL WITH TURTLES
The first stop was Turtle Cove where we snorkeled with large,
endangered sea turtles. This was really unique and fun though there
were tons of other snorkelers at the site. The morning's rain stirred up
the water so we couldn't see the turtles as well as usual but almost
everyone saw at least one. I can only imagine how fantastic this would be
on a clear day. As I swam back to the boat, a huge turtle surfaced right in
front of me, catching me by surprise. Seeing a huge turtle up close in the
wild was worth every bit of the $50 tour fee to me.

We went on to Folkstone Marine Park to snorkel at the coral reef and
then to Historic Carlisle Bay the site of two sunken ships, one of which
was a Jolly Roger style pirate party boat. The teenagers on our tour
enjoyed swimming in and out of the holes in the sunken ship, though this
looked scary to me! We saw plenty of colorful fish on the reef and around
the sunken ships.

Final stop was a beautiful sandy beach where Stephen served the best
rum punch I've ever tasted along with chips and salsa. He also offered
soft drinks, beer and water.

THRILLER TURTLE AND SHIPWRECK TOUR
Stephen and his helper Matthew are great to tour with. Responsible and
trustworthy tour operators are not always easy to find in the Caribbean
so when we do find one we try to spread the word.

During the tour, Stephen stays behind with the boat while Matthew leads
the snorkeling. At one point Matthew left the group and swam quite a
ways back to help my young daughter and I who were lagging behind.

The tour lasts 3 1/2 hours for $50 which is a real bargain. When we go
back to Barbados we will definitely book with Stephen again. His email to
book is thriller-ocean-tours@caribsurf.com.
