SLOVENIA VACATIONS
Ten Recommended Things To Do When Visiting
Slovenia
by: Jonathan Williams
Slovenia is one of the European countries you will enjoy
with its picturesque sights and wide range of terrain.
They have fantastic coastlines, alpine valleys and grand
mountains, which a traveler will surely appreciate. Such
a wide selection of destinations will delight anyone who
happens to reach this place.
1.) Triglavski Narodni Park
This park is located in Triglav which takes up almost
the entire section of the Julian Alps under the
jurisdiction of Slovenia. Many inhabitants of the country
takes pride in this park which is easily one of the best
in this category. Try mountain climbing in the area or
even biking and hiking, and also, this rugged terrain
presents a scenery that is too beautiful for words.
2.) Bled
Here is a town by the lake complete with a small church
perched on an island surrounded by a mountain lake
that is shockingly emerald green in color. Bled Castle
(complete with a small museum) is found above this
cordoned with the Julian Alps. Such a romantic site
makes this place a natural place for honeymooners and
couples.
3.) Zmajski Most
While traveling through major thoroughfares, keep your
eyes peeled for the Dragon Bridge which is guarded by
four dragons. Many inattentive tourists miss this along
the way. This is actually a symbol of the capital city,
Ljubljana.
4.) Downtown Celje
For travelers missing more countryside view of
Slovenia, Celje is a nice place for walking. Indulge in its
beautiful scenery and take pictures, too. You might
even find some cobblestone roads in the area, or you
can visit two old churches and the Stari Grad castle,
too.
5.) Dovje-Mojstrana
This village is about a thousand years old which could
make for a good postcard. It has terraced fields with
orchards found along the slopes of Karavanke. You will
get recommendations to get to this place when you
intend to take a hike up the Julian Alps.
6.) Portorož
You will want to go back to something more familiar yet
get more out of it by going to Portorož. Casinos will
give you that craving for something familiar. But should
you tire of it, you can get to one of the beaches in the
area and try to get some tan under the sun.
7.) Postojna Caves
More for nature trippers, the Postojana caves is a sight
to behold because of its sheer size. You won’t get to
see a lot of caves of this massive size. Here is an
opportunity to get to one and simply let your
imagination run wild and be one with nature.
8.) Vintgar Gorge
Deep in Triglav is one of its hidden gems that will make
you feel lucky you got to see it for yourself. It features a
path made of wooden footbridge which runs to about
160 kilometers right along Radovna River. This
footbridge ends at the waterfall of Šum, and from here
you can go to Bled and continue taking in the sites and
sounds of Slovenia.
9.) Museum hopping
One will also find several museums in Slovenia to give
you numerous collections of historical value. There are
Architecture Museum of Ljubljana, National Museum,
National Museum of Contemporary History, and Tivoli
Gallery. Each one of these museums has its own
specialties, which we could find really interesting and
unique.
10.) Roman City Walls
When walking through the capital, you could run into the
famous ruins of the Roman City Walls in the western
portion of the town’s center. You will get to see a few
columns after walking past the entrance gate. Ruins
like these will keep you rooted to your feet in
consideration of the fact that they used to be real
occurrence in history.
