Orlando Overflows with Vacation Opportunities
By Caitlin Moore

Sometimes it just doesn’t seem fair that Florida gets to have all the
fun; from the hundreds of miles of beaches to the wild and crazy
theme parks, this peninsula is packed with more than enough
punches to keep a vacationer busy for years. You probably only have a
few days, though, so visit the place with the most smiles per square
mile. Orlando has a way of making everyone feel carefree and light as
a feather, and will surely provide a matchless getaway filled with fun,
frivolity and family togetherness.

Beginning with the obvious, there are several famous places in the
Orlando area known for inducing screams of delight, adrenaline
surges, and warm memories of escape and amusement. From
Universal Studios to Magic Kingdom, Seaworld to Cypress Gardens,
there’s a fantasy land for every age and disposition. Watch the kids fall
quiet for once as they lay eyes on one of their favorite Disney
characters and envelop them in a star struck hug. Sit in the “splash
zone” and feel the effects of Shamu’s acrobatics as the spray cools
the warm Florida day. These are just a couple examples of the
entertainment to come, so if the vacations bug has yet to bite, read on.

The best part about the theme park scene in Orlando is that there
really is something for everyone. As long as you enjoy rides and an
atmosphere of playful crowd-pleasing, there’s a place that will entice
you to spend a day. The typical favorites are the big ones of course,
which offer endless variety within their sprawling perimeters and put
your own local amusement parks to shame. Zoos plus museums
plus pure unadulterated thrills will be yours for the taking at Disney,
Seaworld, Universal and others, but don’t forget about the more
intimate offerings, too.

Some find smaller parks to show more character, and they may be
less overwhelming to younger visitors or first-timers. Gatorland is a
historic Florida landmark that offers rides and games as well as a
peek at the unofficial mascot of the state, the alligator. Check out
these fearsome creatures in their natural habitat as well as a few
other examples of the native wildlife in this educational yet wholly
amusing outfit. Smaller petting zoos and older parks are also good
choices for tiny tots, so be assured that everyone will come away
pleased.

Beyond the roller coasters and spinning rides exists an equally
amazing array of opportunities to revel and relax. The Everglades
make up a natural playground that is best explored by kayak, canoe or
horseback. Tennis and golf are ever-popular pursuits and seem
particularly engaging in the fine Florida weather. Sea excursions,
swimming, fishing, paragliding…the list is as long as each sunny day.

Also hot are the shopping, dining, and nightlife opportunities. When
everyone’s in the mood to celebrate the privileged lifestyle of living (if
only temporarily) in a lovely place, it’s no surprise to find clubs,
phenomenal cuisine and shops of all kinds. With over 5,000
restaurants to choose from your taste buds will never become bored,
and the ambiance of your chosen spot can be anything from dressy
and grown-up to kid-friendly and Disney-themed. After the kiddies
have been put to bed, the kids at heart can dance the night away or sit
back and enjoy a smooth helping of jazz or blues. Souvenir shops,
designer stores and outlet malls will provide the accessories to
remember the trip by, so all in all you’ll be covered when it comes to
treating yourself to a full-fledged vacation that satisfies your every
need, want and desire.

The only thing left to consider is your lodging situation. Orlando is
overflowing with choices in this department, but some are clearly
superior to others. If you’ve never had the chance, now would be a
good time to try out a vacation rental. This city contains hundreds of
them, and they’re located all over the place so as to house you in a
place that’s convenient to your itinerary. Disney-lovers can settle into a
condo practically within the park, golf-obsessed folk can choose a
town home overlooking a course, and shopaholics can ensure that
they’re nice and close to all the most fabulous retail establishments.
This doesn’t even touch upon the amenities within the houses
themselves; let’s just say they’re a bit more inclusive and surprising
than the typical hotel room.

Orlando is popular for a reason, so if you’ve yet to see it with your own
eyes you may be feeling a little left out right about now. There’s no
need to continue on in this state of envy, as it’s highly likely that you
deserve a vacation and there’s no better place to take care of your
needs than the happiest place on earth.
