‘Ghost Walks, A ‘Haunted Cave’ & Many More ‘Frights & Sights’

For one month, instead of entertaining visitors with trips to its famous
Falls, tours of its museums and tastings at its new wineries,  Niagara
USA wants to scare the heck out of them. It’s all part of the “Niagara
Frights & Sights” event.

“Niagara Frights & Sights” lasts all of October and encompasses the
entire Niagara USA area, made up of the Falls, River, Lake and Canal
Regions. They’ll be haunted hayrides, a film premiere, Halloween mask-
making, a giant ‘Maize” to get lost in and much more.

Below is a listing of these scary happenings:

The Lockport Haunted Cave:  This 45 minute journey takes visitors
through nearly a mile of underground caverns filled with frightening
special effects and spooky characters lying in wait. Blasted out of solid
rock more than 140 years ago, the cave system initially served as a tunnel
to provide river water for mills and electrical power. Lockport Cave &
Underground Boat Ride,  2 Pine Street, near Main Lockport, NY 14094.

Lewiston's Haunted History Ghost Walks:  This walk through town with a
special ‘spirit guide’ includes psychic folklore, haunted architecture,
ancient archaeological mysteries and a history of  Lewiston's ghostly
heritage. Participants may come face to face with the legendary ghost of
the Frontier House or meet the spirit of Morgan the Mason who vanished
in 1826. Tour begins at 76 Center St. at 7:30 PM and will cost $10.00 per

The Maize:  A huge labyrinth carved into an eight-acre cornfield. Created to
challenge the wits of those attempting to find the exit from more than two
miles of twists, turns and dead-ends. You may never return!!!  For info

The Maize - The Movie. Premiere of this locally-made horror film written,
produced and directed by Bill Cowell. The movie tells the tale of a father
searching for his two daughters who are trapped inside a haunted corn
maze. Not for young children. 7:45 pm at the Riviera Theatre. Oct. 13-31  

Halloween Mask Making: Kids and adults alike will have a ghostly good
time painting pumpkins and their faces and participating in interactive
storytelling. They’ll even get a chance to create their very own decorative
Halloween mask. While there, kids may also enjoy the free, interactive  
power museum. New York Power Authority Power Vista Visitors Center,

The Haunted Fortress: Old Fort Niagara, Fort Niagara State Park,
Youngstown, NY (716) 745-7611. Come meet spirits from the past...in the
dark and frightening 18th century corridors of Old Fort Niagara. Ghosts
will terrorize anyone who dares to walk the dark and narrow stone
hallways. Tickets are available by advance sale only. Not recommended
for children under 8. Oct. 29-30

Pumpkin Fiesta:  Enjoy pig races, hay-rides, tricycle races, a ‘balloon
typhoon’, apple picking and of course, pumpkin decorating add up to
great  family Halloween fun.     Guests will love this autumn festival and
will get the chance to tastes homemade pies and  fudge made especially
for this event.  The Pumpkin Fiesta will be held at Becker Farms, 3760
Quaker Rd, Gasport from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information about

Aquarium Halloween Happenings: Enjoy a haunting good time at the
Aquarium of Niagara.  All costumes welcome. Children will have the
opportunity to make a full-size scarecrow, win a prize for best costume,
and much more. This is a fun opportunity to celebrate the spookiest time
of the year with young kids in a safe environment. A treat bag for each
child will be provided.  The highlight will be the Spooktacular Sea Lion
Shows, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Children dressed as a sea creatures will

The Haunted Forest Hayride, Labyrinth & Area 51: Billed as the ‘Ultimate
Halloween experience’, this farm transforms itself into the ‘ultimate
Halloween experience’ with a Halloween Labyrinth; Haunted Forest and

Pumpkin Fun At Niagara Arts Center:   A tribute to everything pumpkin-
related, this two day event is fun for the whole family.  There are pumpkin
races and carving, pumpkin cooking and tossing, all taking place on the
large lawn of the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, 1201 Pine Avenue,
