LAS VEGAS HOTELS
1. VISIT LAS VEGAS IN THE OFF-SEASON- Las Vegas doesn't really
have an "off-season", but some times are always busier than others. Try
to avoid the hot summer months, holidays, spring breaks, and large
conventions. If in doubt about a particular time period, call the Las Vegas
Chamber of Commerce to see if any major conventions are scheduled.
2. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREE PARKING AT LAS VEGAS HOTELS : If
you do rent a car, park it in one of the free and secure parking lots. Las
Vegas casinos don't want to give you any reason to leave, so they offer
free parking as an additional perk. Be sure to check if you need to get
your parking ticket validated inside.
3. ASK FOR FREE FUNBOOKS AT THE HOTEL FRONT DESK AND USE
THEM: Las Vegas funbooks offer a variety of money-saving opportunities
from 2-for-1 show tickets and dinners to worthwhile discounts on food
and drinks.
4. ASK EVERYWHERE ABOUT DISCOUNTS, SPECIAL OFFERS, FREE
DRINKS AND COMPS: Many special offers and discounts are available at
Las Vegas hotels and casinos, but only if you ask for them.
5. KNOW WHAT ROOM AMENITIES TO EXPECT: Las Vegas hotels
seem to missing a few common room amenities we’ve learned to
expect. Most Las Vegas hotel rooms do not have refrigerators, safes,
and/or tea/coffee pots. Some hotels allow refrigerators to be requested
for an additional fee of around $12 per night. Many guests bring along
their own cooler and a teapot. Pick up bottled water and sunscreen at
Walgreens or CVS located right on the strip.
6. USE FREE AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Taxis are expensive
and unnecessary so use the free monorail service to go from hotels to
casinos. Bally's monorail to the MGM Grand runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.
m., seven days a week, every ten minutes. Bellagio's free monorail to the
Monte Carlo runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. seven days a week. Luxor's
monorail between Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay runs 24 hours a day
and picks up riders every 8 minutes. Mirage's monorail to Treasure
Island runs from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m., seven days a week. The public
transportation system, known as "CAT", runs more than 300 buses from
5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. seven days a week.
7. WATCH FOR HIDDEN AND UNEXPECTED FEES: Most Las Vegas
hotels charge for local calls and all charge for internet access. Watch out
for hidden fees such as one hotel's advertised "free in-room computer."
Yes, use of the computer is free, but the internet charge is very
expensive. Some of the larger hotels charge a daily "resort" fee
beginning at $5 per person, per day. Outrageous ATM fees are also
common in Las Vegas, running as much as $10 per transaction. Don’t
use ATM machines located inside the casinos.
8. BE AWARE OF ROLLAWAY/COT/CRIB FEES: Before you request an
extra rollaway, cot or crib check the price. Rates range from $15-$25 plus
9% sales tax PER NIGHT for rollaways, cots and cribs.
9. JOIN THE PLAYERS CLUB OR ONE CLUB TO QUICKLY RACK UP
COMPS: The Players Club works at seven different MGM Mirage resorts
and casinos. The Players Club allows comps to be accrued for rooms,
food and beverage, entertainment and spa services. Players Club is
accepted at Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mirage, Treasure Island, New York
New York, MGM Grand-Detroit and Beau Rivage-Biloxi. If you plan to visit
other hotels and casinos, also join “The One Club”. The One Club works
at 10 different hotels and casinos allowing you to accrue comps faster
than ever before. The One Club works at Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Excalibur,
Circus Circus and Slots-of-Fun in Las Vegas; Circus Circus in Reno,
Colorado Belle and and Edgewater in Laughlin, Nevada, and Gold Strike
in Tunica.
10. COMPARE PRICES ON THE INTERNET BEFORE YOU BOOK AND
ASK ABOUT FEES FOR 3RD AND 4TH GUESTS: Room prices for Las
Vegas hotels are all over the place for any given night. Check several
internet sites before booking. After finding the best price, be sure to read
the site’s cancellation policies. Sometimes it’s better to pay more and
received a flexible cancellation policy. If you book directly through the
hotel's website, note that most Las Vegas hotels have a cancellation
policy of 48 hours. Rates quoted are usually for two adults, additional
guests are charged $15-$25 per night for guests 13 or older. Some
hotels charge for 3rd and 4th guests in a room, regardless of age. What
may sound like a bargain, may actually turn out to be an expensive hotel
room. Know your facts before you go so you won't be surprised.
