Lorna has been the cook at Fairwinds for over 22 years.
Over and over, I found myself drawn into the kitchen where Lorna
stood on her feet all day, every day, cooking and baking treats for us.
I loved being in Lorna's kitchen. For some inexplicable reason, it
gave me the same warm secure feeling I remembered as a little
girl watching my grandmother bake apple pies. My only regret was
not watching more closely as Lorna cooked. She was kind enough
to share her family recipes with me, but I have a feeling they won't
taste the same.

Verona arrived early every morning before 6:30 a.m. and stayed
late every night until all the dinner dishes were washed and put
away. Verona took very good care of us while we were at
Fairwinds. She made us laugh with her clever sense of humor and
made us cry when we had to finally say goodbye. We appreciated
her special touches of fresh flowers in the bedrooms and hibiscus
blooms tucked into the napkins at dinner. She volunteered to help
us anytime we needed anything, from driving us around on the golf
cart to calling other villas so we could take a tour.

Who could forget sweet Winnie, the laundress with the voice of
an angel, who along with the others sang for us in perfect
harmony. I suspect Winnie must be an artist, for everything she
does is with an artistic flair. After finishing a small stack of
laundry for my mother, Winnie delivered the clothes, perfectly
aligned and folded, on a breakfast tray with fresh flowers.

My husband, David, an avid gardener himself, hit it off with
Dwayne on the first day. For the rest of the week, they laughed,
joked and listened to Bob Marley while Dwayne tried his best to
get his work done.
