Affordable Disney World Vacation - Ideas for Free
Things to Do
by Alison Meacham
We all know that the costs of a trip to Disney World can
start to add up rather quickly. However, there are many
ways that you can save on your vacation and there are
even some free things to do if you know where to look.
Here is your guide to making your Disney World vacation
more affordable.
Go to The Boardwalk - a brilliantly themed area set
around a lake evoking images of Coney Island in the
1940s. Parking is free for 3 hours,so walk around and
check out the great restaurants and free entertainment. It
is so relaxing to sit on the beach at the side of the lake
and just watch the world go by. You can even catch a
glimpse of the EPCOT Reflections of Earth fireworks,
which happen every night at 9pm.
Go to Downtown Disney. This is a huge area featuring
shopping, entertainment and restaurants. Disney loves to
do shopping and entertainment on a large scale and it
does it exceptionally well. Some hightlights of Downtown
Disney are the largest Disney Store in the World, and an
enormous Lego Store with lots of areas for the children
to play, and a Virgin Megastore which is great for
browsing.
Visit a resort hotel. Disney is the world leader in
hospitality and their beautifully themed resort hotels
reflect an amazing attention to detail. The Grand
Floridian is their most luxurious hotel - the lobby has to
be seen to believed. My personal favorite is The Animal
Kingdom Lodge. You step into another continent as you
enter the lobby doors with the wonderfully themed sights
and sounds of Africa. The hotel is sited at the back of the
Animal Kingdom Park so you can see animals in the huge
savanah. On my last visit I spent an entertaining time
talking with one of the animal experts about the animals
that we could see - we had our own personal guide for
free.
Take one of the free tours at The Grand Floridian, The
Yatch Club,The Wilderness Lodge or The Animal
Kingdom Lodge. These tours, which are free to any
Disney resort hotel guest are interesting and informative.
Some tours need an advance reservation - contact the
hotel directly for information and reservations.
Visit the town of Celebration. When Walt Disney first had
the idea for EPCOT is was his vision that it would be a
master planned community of the future, where people
lived and worked, and where futuristic technology and
transportation would be integrated. Well, EPCOT didn't
really turn out that way! However, when Disney was
deciding how to develop the land it had close to it's
theme parks, it decided to build the master planned
community of Celebration. It is a beautiful, pedestrian
friendly town centered around lake - many say it is
reminiscent of Mayberry! Just wander around and browse
the shops, have tea at The Sherlock Holmes Tea Room
or one of the other eateries, visit the Celebration hotel,
or just people watch by the lake. During the Christmas
Holidays it even snows on Main Street!
